Craik Park Masterplan

Overview

Craik Park was previously an old showground but now functions as an established local sportsground. Located just 10 kilometres southeast of the Western Sydney Airport and in close proximity to the Western Sydney Aerotropolis, it holds significant potential for its future as a local town park, meeting the many day-to-day passive and active recreation needs of its community and predicted population growth.

Where we are at?

Where is the project taking place?

Craik Park is located at the corner of Eleventh Ave and Fourth Ave, Austral.

What is proposed?

This draft masterplan was developed to prioitise the enhancement of the existing sports and active identity whilst ensuring equitable access for the community. The benefit of this masterplan promotes inclusivity for both sports and non-sports communities, offering a comprehensive sports complex with necessary amenities and providing diverse programs to cater to varied community interest and activities.

The inclusion of this masterplan are:

  • Sportsfield in a bushland setting
  • New amenities building including showers and changerooms
  • Play spaces
  • Multi-purpose courts
  • Event spaces e.g. markets
  • Sheltered picnic with BBQ facilities
  • Outdoor gym
  • Public toilet block
  • Passive kick- about spaces
  • Tiered seating
  • Bushland with education programs
  • Off leash dog park

The masterplan was designed and developed in close collaboration with the community, to ensure we created a plan that responds to our community today and well into the future. The Draft Masterplan has been designed to be delivered in TWO stages, the first to meet the current demands for the community and the second to complete all works to combine the space. Do we need to mention 3 options?

Community consultation included:

  • Family Fun Day – 7 October 2023
  • Online Survey on Council’s Liverpool Listens Page – October 2023
  • Community Forum at Austral Public School – 2 November 2023
  • Key stakeholder sporting clubs – Western Blue Little Athletics Club and Austral City Bears Junior Rugby Leagues Football Club – 22 November 2023

From the community engagement consultations, we identified the following:

  • To improve the capacity and accessibility of the existing park.
  • To upgrade the existing children’s playground to suit all ages.
  • To upgrade the existing sports courts to multi-sport games courts.
  • For toilet facilities to be of public access.
  • To redesign the existing car park to incorporate accessible parking and additional spaces if needed.
  • To improve/incorporate walking and biking trails and to consider connectivity to surrounding open spaces and green and blue corridors.
