Liverpool Plants Thousands of Trees

Liverpool Council is celebrating National Tree Day by planting 2,000 trees to help cool down our suburbs and create valuable habitat.

Liverpool Mayor Ned Mannoun said Council was proudly partnering with Greater Sydney Landcare to help plant 200,000 native trees and shrubs across Greater Sydney by the end of 2025.

“Planting trees is a cost-effective and sustainable way to address multiple environmental challenges and provides numerous social and economic benefits.

“Our bushland is precious, and Council has put a lot of work into regenerating it throughout the LGA.

“There has already been significant regeneration work at Schoeffel Park and we’re looking forward to growing on that this National Tree Day.

More than 25 million trees have been planted across Australia since National Tree Day began in 1996 and this year’s event promises to be the biggest yet.

Danielle Packer, Creating Canopies Project Manager for Greater Sydney Landcare said members of the public are welcome to come along and plant trees.

“The benefits of green spaces are immense—improving physical health, lowering stress levels, and creating cooler environments.

"The trees we plant will not only cool down Schoeffel Park and wider Sydney, but they’ll also provide vital habitats for birds and other wildlife," said Ms Packer.
